Summer Is. . .

1. Going to a Farmer's Market! The city I live in doesn't actually have one, so I took Kirsten with me to one the next city over, and it was pretty small but really great!

2. Eating snow cones! My favorite flavor has always been Tiger's Blood, although I have NO idea what the flavor actually is. (Anybody know? I'd love to find out!) Kirsten had her first taste of the wonderful snow cone at the Market, and she really enjoyed it too!

3. Beautiful bouquets of fresh, summery flowers! I'd love to say I bought some, took them home, and set them out on my table to look gorgeous amidst a home-cooked meal. But. . . I didn't. I was running low on cash. Next time!

4. Fresh-picked BERRIES! These were what I was REALLY excited to find at the market and where most of my cash went. To find out which berry is my absolute favorite, just keep reading!

5. Water! You can't exactly go swimming in this fountain, but it was pretty to look at anyway.
6. Ducks! Ducks really have nothing to do with summer, but. . . Kirsten loved them! We sat on a bench by the duck pond to finish our snow cone and watch them swim around.

(Aren't the baby ducks so cute???)

7. My favorite berry of all time is. . . BOYSENBERRIES!!! You have no idea how thrilled I was to find these for sale at the Market, because I have NEVER seen these beauties anywhere but in southern California! I never saw them in Utah or Washington until now. My family used to have boysenberry bushes, and I loved to go outside and pick them until my hands were stained purple and my tummy was full. They are delicious! Blackberries grow everywhere in Washington, but their flavor is just so mild compared to the boysenberry. Boysenberries have the perfect mix of tangy, tart sweetness and they just taste like summer in a bowl to me!

Here is a picture of my beautiful berries. They're all gone now, but even just looking at this picture makes my mouth water again! I should have definitely gotten all four boysenberries and skipped the raspberries though. If you live in a place where boysenberries are easily accessible, consider yourself lucky!

So the Farmer's Market was a hit! It's hard to believe summer is coming to an end soon. I'll have to head back over the Market again soon, before it's GONE until next year!

  1. We love going to the Edmonds Farmers Market. We bought a cedar love seat for our front porch (from a vendor) last weekend! The boys love the kettle corn and berries. I love looking at the jewelry. Try it out some time if that isn't too far of a drive for you.

  4. I love berries! Those look so good! We just don't get as many good and yummy berries out here as we did in the NW. I remember berry season seemed to long out there and it seems so short out here.
You know the last time I had boysenberries? When we got some from a farmers market in Seattle. lol. :-) But my all time favorite berry is raspberry. We used to grow them when I was a kid and I would do much the same as you did with your boysenberries.
There is a farmers market down the street from where we live now but they have weird hours and I never remember to go when they are open!

  11. I've never had a boysenberry. Guess I'd better try one. We have raspberried growing in our yard. My husband likes to go out in the early morning and pick some for his cereal.

  12. Sheila: Thanks so much for the tip! Edmonds isn't far at ALL from where I live, so I will have to go check that one out for sure!!!

Shell: You should go! They really are fun!

Kaci: I've never made a berry pie before! I've only ever made French apple. I should try some berry pies, that sounds so yummy.

Jeanette: It sounds like lots of peoples' favorite berries are raspberries. Boysenberries are just the most flavorful of all of them to me. Although if you get one that's not ripe enough and too sour... OUCH, it almost hurts your mouth!

Da Bergs: Thanks! You should try to find some too!

Kim: You're so sweet to remember that! Thanks for commenting on my blog. And YES, I want to go to the beach with you for sure in September!!!

Rachel: You must have SO much fun selling bows at your booth. There was a girl there selling bows, but they weren't as cute as yours of COURSE!

Aunties: Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your comment!

Merrianne: You're the only one who told me what Tiger's Blood was! Wow, I could have guessed the strawberry but I don't think I would have ever guessed watermelon was in there!
Yes, it's crazy that summer is almost over! But I'm also excited. It means no more fun park days with Kirsten, but it also means the start of my FAVORITE season!

Smith Fam: And you call yourself my friend! :) JK. YES, I've always loved them!

Kween: Try some if you can! They are wonderful!
