Nobody ever wants to think about the mysterious risks associated with SIDS. But it's definitely scary enough to keep many new moms awake at night, making sure their newborn is really breathing (I know I did that!)

On February 2'nd, a breakthrough new study about SIDS was released. It indicates that a low production of serotonin in the brain stem has a major link with SIDS. This new study (partially funded by the CJ Foundation for SIDS) could allow doctors and physicians to concretely identify babies at risk for SIDS.

The CJ Foundation wants to remind parents and caregivers that overheating is a leading risk factor for SIDS, which increases during the cold winter months when heaters get cranked up too high. If your baby is sweating, has damp hair, or a heat rash, he or she may be too hot. Room fans have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS. They also recommend the use of wearable blankets or sleep sacks in place of loose blankets while babies are sleeping.
