We're Having. . . Cheeseburger Pie!

This is definitely one of the most requested recipes in my house. Everyone LOVES Cheeseburger Pie and can't seem to get enough of it! The flavors really are SO good. I wish I had a yummy-looking picture to post with it here, but I have never photographed it. So you'll just have to TRUST me and go MAKE it for your family! They will all love it, even picky people like me!

Cheeseburger Pie:

Ingredients-
1 pound ground beef (I usually use a little more, like 1.4 pounds)
1 9" pie crust (I LOVE the frozen Marie Callendar's pie crusts, they are the best!)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 cup purchased dry bread crumbs
1 8-oz can tomato sauce
1/4 cup chopped onion (I substitute 1/2 tsp onion powder for the real onions)
1/4 cup chopped green pepper (I despise peppers, so I skip this entirely!)
Cheese Topping:
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups (8 oz) shredded Cheddar cheese (Tillamook is the best!)

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare pastry for 9" pie crust. If you're using a frozen pie crust, let it thaw a little bit. In skillet, cook ground beef. Drain excess oil, and then add bread crumbs, tomato sauce, salt, oregano, pepper, onion or onion powder, and peppers. Cook until simmering. Pour beef mixture into pastry-lined pie pan.
To make the cheese topping, beat eggs and milk together in a bowl. Stir in all seasonings and cheese. Spread cheese topping over filling. Place pie pan on a cookie sheet covered with tin foil (if you don't do this, the filling will spill over and your oven will get really messy! I learned this the hard way!) Bake about 30 minutes.

  1. Yummy! I'll have to try that! I love trying new recipes. Besides I need to start doing more casserole kind of things because my girls are more likely to eat it. They aren't big fans of basil or curry.

  6. Mmm, that sounds really good. Now to try and improvise and make it gluten free...that is always the kicker.

  7. This so really good! I have a similar recipe but it is much more simple (read less ingredients, less flavor) and probably not half as good. I will have to try this. Thanks for sharing.
