Savoring the Moments!

Since the new baby is due SO soon, I have been really trying to savor the moments lately. Moments like these:

*Sleep! I happen to really like sleeping through the whole night, uninterrupted. I know that I will sleep through the whole night again, someday, but for awhile that will seem just like a dream instead of a reality!

*Spending time with Kirsten as my only child. It's crazy to think that after the next week or so, she will never again be an only child! Never!!!

*Playing games with friends for a few hours after we put Kirsten to bed. It's nice to have such a long block of free time without interruptions!

*Not breastfeeding. This sounds kind of crazy and probably shocking to some people, but I had a very difficult time breastfeeding Kirsten and am extremely nervous about doing it again. I should really do a whole blog post about it.

*Enjoying Kirsten's recent silly antics, like climbing into the dryer and wanting to play in there. She's such a funny girl! Lately she laughs hysterically at SO many things, and she does lots of things that make me laugh too. I love these pictures of her in the dryer!

Most people have been assuming that I'm totally feeling done with being pregnant, since I'm nearing the end and am at the huge, awkward, uncomfortable stage. In some ways, that's true. I'm very excited to meet our new little girl and find out what she looks like and what her personality is like. But on the other hand, it really has been a joy to be pregnant with her and I'm not dying for the pregnancy to be over. It's much easier taking care of her inside me than outside! So as much as I'm looking forward to our new baby being born, I'm still happy to be pregnant.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and I'll find out more about how close labor might be and whether I'll be induced again. Last week my doctor checked my cervix and said it was very soft and the baby has already dropped, but I wasn't dilating at all yet. Any guesses about whether the baby will come early or late?

Until then. . . I'm doing my best to savor the moments.

  1. I remember having thoughts about my son not being an only child anymore. It was a little bittersweet for me. It had just been the 2 of us at home, running errands, playing etc. I'll admit I was a bit sad about letting that go. But once my daughter came there was no looking back and now I can't imagine life with out her.
I like to savor the last few weeks of my pregnancy as well. Enjoy!

  5. Kirsten is so funny!!!!! I totally felt exactly like you did at the end of my pregnancy with Lilly!! I was so excited to have her there but then I was also nervous for the new challenges so I was content to stay preggo too. Good luck!!!!!!!!! I on the other hand, can't WAIT for your new baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Don't worry about not liking breastfeeding; the only reason I did it was because it was free. My kids weaned themselves really early anyway, so it turned out to be fine.
People may *gasp* at what I'm saying, but it was not a great bonding experience for me either. I had a difficult time, too.

  7. Fun post. I wish I would've been blogging when I was pregnant. There's so many things I wish I would've written down now. Enjoy this fun time in your life!

  8. I remember trying to savor those last days before the family changed as well. Even a change that's such a blessing as adding a new baby to teh family, it's still a change and takes time to get used to!

about the breastfeeding, I struggled with my 1st as well. She would take over an hour to nurse per feeding very frequently (she would never just SUCK and be done, she was what I'd call a slacker eater... just sort of half-heartedly and would take breaks often, but all heck would break loose if I dared remove her from the breast before SHE felt she was done), wanted to nurse often, frequently bit, etc. I finally admitted defeat and worked at moving her to formula by 9.5 months. Feedings took 15 minutes TOPS after that, she fed far less frequently, and life was grand, and I regretted fighting for the breastfeeding as long as I had. I had very strong reservations about nursing my 2nd, but figured it was worth a shot. It was a dream! Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Baby #3 had a tied tongue and nursing was a nightmare for the 1st two weeks, but I'd given myself a goal of at least a month (sometimes it does take awhile for mom and baby to perfect things!) and it was a breeze after those first two weeks. My suggestion is that if you have any desire at all to breastfeed, is that you give it at least a month and see where you stand at that point. If it's going well, continue, if it's not, either seek help from a lactation specialist (they're awesome!), or move onto formula. I'm all about breastfeeding, but I'm also about self preservation and if it's not working, it's not working!! Anyway, I hope that maybe eases your mind a bit. Just because it didn't work great the first time, doesn't mean it won't work great the 2nd time.

and congrats on being so close!! I guess I've not checked in here for longer than I thought!!

  10. I'm so happy to hear you aren't "sick" of being pregnant. Good for you! Those are great moments to savor. I hope your new bundle of joy will be a great sleeper! Kirsten will make such a wonderful big sister. What a cutie!

    Early/Late?
Hope about I play it safe and accurate and say that darling baby will come when she's ready. Or when she gets kicked out. ;) If I had to guess, I'd say late, since you aren't dying to be done yet. lol!

[Ever since Karlyn spent a whole WEEK dilated to a 5 or 6, I don't let any dilating/softening have any sway on guessing. (Baby was healthy & not "overcooked" in spite of being 2 weeks "late," can you believe it?!)]
