We have been busy getting our third bedroom ready for Kirsten, so that the new baby can have the baby room. And we finally ordered this awesome furniture set from the Land of Nod! I'm really excited to get it all set up in the room and see how everything looks!
I totally fell in love with this bunk bed as soon as I saw it. It's just so cute, and I love the fact that it can come apart and be turned into two twin beds. We'll set up the bed in Kirsten's new bedroom, but she won't be actually sleeping in it yet. She's still very happy in her crib and has never tried to climb out, so I'm definitely in no hurry to get her out of a crib. We're borrowing a second crib from friends, so Kirsten can stay in a crib as long as she wants and we'll just set up the bunk bed in her room anyway and hide the ladder so she can't climb up to the top.
Isn't the bed adorable?

Question for the experienced moms out there: How old were your kids when they moved from a crib to a regular bed? (I know it's different for every kid, but I'd like to get an idea of when she might be ready for it.)
We also got this dresser that matches the bed:
And this cute nightstand too! I'm so happy that I found such great-quality furniture that I love for the room that Kirsten will have and eventually will share with her little sister.
Oh CUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!!!!!! I love the butterflies and that lamp is SOOOOOOO cute!!! Those book baskets too, wow! I can't wait to see pictures when it's done!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat cute stuff!! We've been thinking about bunk beds for our boys for a while. My parents have a REALLY sturdy set that they want to give to us, but we're having a hard time getting them to Utah from Kansas!
ReplyDeleteThe Hulk is stil in a crib, and he'll be 3 on Memorial Day. I've recently shown him how to crawl out of his crib so I don't have to go get him at 6:30 in the morning when he's yelling at me! Just last night, we had the boys sleep in the same room to see how it went. (We've got an extra matress under Spiderman's bed.) They played for a long time, but both eventually fell asleep in there. I think I'm gonna make it a habit.
We went to toddler bed with Brent at age 2 or slightly before then. With Adam we went straight to (bottom) bunk bed at 2 3/4. Now the crib will go to baby #3.
ReplyDeleteTotally cute!! I love how you are thinking ahead too, a bunk bed is way smart! I always shared a room with my sister and (most of the time) I LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteI really love the storage bags too. What a CUTE way to keep everything organized!
How fun is this? I can't wait to see the finished pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! So exciting! I love the bunks; rustic, but still modern looking. :)
ReplyDeleteREALLY cute stuff! It's going to be an adorable room. The kids I've nannied for have been about 3 when they switch to a "big kid bed." :)
ReplyDeletecan you be my decorater? you are too cute. i cannot wait to see the finish product!
ReplyDeleteEverything is so cute and fun! You have good taste, I must say. We moved our oldest to a bed when he was just over 2 because we needed the crib for his little brother. He actually really liked his "big boy bed". Tyler is still in the crib and he's 2 1/2, but he's getting way too big for it. We're trying to get his new bed set up.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE butterflies and those are so beautiful! I'd love those in my room! And purple is my favorite color and I love polka dots, so I wouldn't mind having that lamp, either. :)
ReplyDeleteeverything is gonna look so cute all together!!!!!! you have SUCH good taaste!!!!!
ReplyDeleteby the way... did you get the invite to my other private blog?
So cute! I want to see the final product when your room is all put together.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so darling. The butterflies made my heart do a butterfly and the totes and lamps.
ReplyDeleteSo, so cute.
With each child it is diffirent. Usually when they were climbing out and it was becoming dangerous for them.
The bed is a beautiful well made piece of furniture.
Love the bunks! I am totally in love with bunk beds too! :)
ReplyDeleteLincoln was out of his crib by 16 months, and it was pure torture. He had a really hard time with understanding invisible boundaries (what am I talking about, he still has that problem!) so it was not easy but it seriously took him less than a second to jump out once he knew how. My advice is: if Kirsten is happy in her crib, no need to move her! Keep her in there as long as she wants to; different kids have different comfort levels and if you move her too fast that may freak her out a bit. I was pushing for Lincoln to be done with his crib pretty fast, and once I realized he should just stay in there for however long he wants, I ended up getting my wish and now it's still a power struggle! Just my 2 cents.
As always, impecable taste, Ashley! So cute!!!!
ReplyDelete(my other reaction was "$$!$!$?!$" but you prob'ly don't need to know that.)
I moved C out of her crib when D needed it, and she really didn't like her toddler bed. It didn't take long to put her matress on the floor instead of up on the frame, and she was MUCH happier that way. Funny girl.
We moved D into a toddler bed before he was 2 simply because I saw this beautiful window of opportunity. He never fought bedtime at that stage, and he seemed like he wanted to be "big" like sister, so I took advantage of it. Just listen to the Spirit and your gut instinct. You'll know when she's ready.
Love the plans for the new room! We moved our twins out of cribs when they were 18 months old... they hadn't started to climb out yet, and didn't know for a while that they could get out of their beds on their own. They'd still wake up and wait for us to come get them... it was great. Just make sure you put up some guard rails on the side of the bed... one of our 4-year-olds would still fall out of bed on a regular basis without them.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE polka dots!!! CUTE stuff!!! I cant wait to see the finished product!!!
ReplyDeleteWay cute!!! I moved Tristan over to a toddler bed when Brodix was born so 18 months. He has done exceptionally well at going to bed in it but like you said every child is different
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be one cute room!
ReplyDeleteMy son moved to a big boy bed when he was just barely 2. My daughter will be moving to a big bed here in a few months, before she is 2. We want to transition her before we need the crib for the baby. She loves her brother's bed and actually throws a tantrum some nights because she wants to sleep in his bed. I think she is ready.

ReplyDeleteYes Bunkbeds are great!
ReplyDeleteWe had three sets for a while,
but not any more, all single beds...
Hope you have a great Easter!

Our choir numbers are gorgeous, our choir leader always picks out the best arrangements! Love, Lisa
I love all of it!! The furniture is just gorgeous! So are you doing their room in pastels it looks like? So pretty!
ReplyDeleteFor your crib question, Marianne is still in her bassinet but I know my mom left us in the crib for as long as she could (until we could climb out of it because then what's the point of having a crib? also that can be dangerous), I think it was around 3 or 4 that we would go into a regular bed, but then again we are all about 2 years apart and we never had more than 1 crib so maybe we were younger. I know my sister in law wanted to keep her baby in a crib for longer but she kept climbing out (she just turned 3) so they put this big mesh device with a zipper closure that kind of resembles a tent that attaches to the entire crib to keep her from climbing out. Don't know if you are that desperate to keep her in the crib but that's another option I guess.
REALLY cute stuff! It's going to be an adorable room. I love beautiful purple lamp and would got it at Pottery barn kids.
