Baby Gate Blues

Last week, we finally put baby gates at the top and bottom of the stairs. It really should have been done sooner, because she's been climbing the stairs for a few weeks now. There have been a couple times that I was in the kitchen and looked over to notice that she had already climbed up a step or two by herself. Yikes! I always rushed over and was glad she hadn't leaned back or fallen off. I still climb the stairs with her several times a day, but we try to keep the gate shut the rest of the time. Kirsten still crawls over to the stairs all the time, and she'll pull herself up and stand there holding onto the gate. Sometimes she gets a little sad or fussy that she can't climb them every time she wants to, especially when she wants to follow someone.
The baby gates will take some getting used to for us. The one at the top of the stairs is open most of the time, but it's the bottom one that we have to remember to open and shut. So far, Kirsten has no concept of going down the stairs backwards. She'll try to dive down them head-first, and when I try to get her to go down backwards she thinks she's just supposed to climb up. Someday we'll get it!

I love how you can see her two little teeth in the bottom two pictures!

  2. Ahh gates...I love it. We have one blocking Lilly from the kitchen and I have banged my toes on the top of it more times than I can count. I look forward to the day we can retire that gate. But by then I'll probably have another baby, haha.
