The Eats and Treats in New York City!

WARNING: If you look at the following photos you may find yourself becoming incredibly hungry and be hit by numerous cravings. Just thought I'd let you know!!

Especially this picture. My mouth is watering as I type. My parents had just one recommendation for something we HAD to do in New York City. . . they told us we had to go to Carnegie Deli and order the cheesecake. It was sooooooo good, we went back for it again before we flew out on Monday afternoon. It was the best cheesecake I've ever had and I wish I could have a slice right NOW!
Stephen also ordered the Carnegie Deli's famous sandwich called the Woody Allen. Holy cow, check out that stack of meat! For me, that would be enough meat to last me a whole month's worth of sandwiches! But that's because I normally put just a couple slices of meat on my sandwiches. Stephen thought it was awesome and said the meat was really tender.
NYC Traveler's Tip #10: Be prepared for sandwiches at all the New York delis to be HUGE like that and also expensive, like around $12-15 per sandwich. And it seemed like they all charged a fee of $3 or so if you wanted to share a sandwich. Also, they all bring you a bowl of dill pickles to eat on the side. I don't like dill pickles at all, but Stephen thought they were great.

One night we hit up Little Italy for some yummy pizza and gelato. I expected Little Italy to be all cute and charming, but it really wasn't. We learned on the bus tour that Chinatown is taking over Little Italy. So Little Italy is constantly shrinking and Chinatown is getting bigger. Little Italy wasn't anything pretty to look at, but we did go to Lombardi's for some famous pizza.
It was good, I'll give them that! But the very BEST pizza in the world to me still comes from The Pie in Salt Lake City. Anybody with me on that? You'd never guess that the world's best pizza is in Utah, but it truly is! And I've eaten pizza in Italy and New York, and I still say that!
We did get some really yummy gelato at Ferrara after our pizza, and got some Italian pastries to take back to our hotel. It was such a fun night, and I totally recommend both of those places!
NYC Traveler's Tip #11: If you want to save some money, don't eat on the main street of Times Square. Just venturing a few blocks away in any direction will get you the same quality of food for less money.

NYC Traveler's Tip #12: Try the street food! I liked the hot dogs and the soft pretzels.

We got our cheapest meal in New York City when we ate lunch at Papaya Dog on the day we left. The special was two hot dogs and a fruity drink or soda for $4. It was a few blocks away from Times Square.

And that is finally the end of our New York City adventures! It was such a fun and great trip, and despite the cold we had a fabulous time there together!

  3. MMM, love the food in NYC! We went to Lombardi's also...and it was really yummy. The only thing was we were seated in this upstairs covered patio next to a LARGE Italian family who were so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. As they were leaving, my friends mom said "it's about time...you were all so loud." We were worried that she might have a "hit" put out on her.

My other complaint...there are no refills on soda ANYWHERE!! We are spoiled in UT to have unlimited Diet Coke at most restaurants.

    Looks like an amazing time!

  4. I could do the pizza and the cheesecake just fine, but not the sandwich. I'm a "thin meat sandwich" kind of a girl. Looks like such a fun time. I'm gonna beg Luvpilot to take me to NY. I mean we can fly for free for heavens sake so why aren't I going??

Have you ever had Pizza at Pietro's in San Diego? It's in El Cajon and I think that is my favorite Pizza ever!!

  10. I'd enjoy that sandwich. But you've seen me with hot dogs - less bread and more meat.

I love the pie, but I absolutely do not think it's better than Italian pizza. Didn't you say you'd only tried pizza margherita in Italy? There are so many different types that all have their own unique tastes (like pizza americana with hot dogs and fries on it), and pizza also differs a lot by region. The stuff we tried in Verona was horrible, Milano was okay, Brescia was by far the best, and Torino was pretty dang good. Because as much as I LOVE the pie, I think Italian pizza is sooo much better. I'd rather have thin crust, a thin layer of sauce, a few toppings, and a thin layer of cheese, but have it all be fresh and preservative free. Not to mention the Italian brick oven taste that I've never been able to find here in the states. Don't get me wrong, though. The Pie is fantastic! But they're almost like different dishes to me. For me it'd be like comparing lasagna to ravioli. They're both pastas with similar ingredients, but they're completely different dishes with different tastes.
