Halloween dinner was SO yummy! The traditional dinner my mom made for us every Halloween when I was growing up is. . .
Witches Brew and homemade cornbread!
Witches Brew is a really awesome soup with the main ingredients being pork and beans, tomatoes in their juice, bacon pieces, different seasonings, and the BEST part. . . hot dog slices! It may sound weird, and it's supposed to look a little creepy because that's what makes it Halloween soup! But it has such an awesome flavor and it's just not Halloween for me without it! I've never gone a single year without eating it. Even as a college student at BYU I used to make it and invite friends over for dinner. It's always a big hit! And I smother my cornbread with honey too. It's the only way to eat it! We gave Kirsten her first taste of Witches Brew this year, and she loved it too!

After Halloween dinner, my other tradition is watching Disney's cartoon version of Legend of Sleepy Hollow AND the really old Disney's Halloween Treat that my mom taped off the Disney Channel in 1982, the year I was born! My family has had that VHS tape forever and we've always loved it. Disney hasn't ever released it on DVD (they should!) but my mom managed to copy it from VHS onto a DVD for me. It's awesome! Here is the video of the intro to it. Has anyone else ever seen it?
I am now craving Witches Brew. Blog your recipe please!
ReplyDeleteI love your decorations too!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI miss Sleepy Hollow! My brother and I loved watching that each year. And your pictures are great, as always. I love that your "every day" pictures look so pretty. Witches' Brew sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteI made Witches Brew too! But mind DID NOT look like that! I haven't ever had it before I made it so I wonder what I did differently?? What fun Haloween traditions! I think that is the best part of any holiday!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun traditions you guys have. I love the Sleepy Hollow cartoon, I haven't seen it since I was a kid though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool tradition!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on Sleepy Hollow. I just put a video of that up on my blog! Oh, by the way, that ghost cartoon has been released on DVD. It's on "Disney's House of Villians". They show a bunch of Halloween, short cartoons.
Ooo that soup does look yumo. :) You are so cute!
ReplyDeleteAwesome traditions! & I like your decorations, too.
ReplyDeleteWe had the same Halloween Special growing up, though I'm not sure what year my mom caught it on DC. Funny! Remember when they'd do the month-long free sample of the Disney Channel? Back in the day when DC was a lot more innocent and lot less "pop"? I loved that.
Haha, I've always wanted to see pics of your Witches Brew, how fun! Danny's mom does chili every Halloween but I like the name for your soup better. Your kids will love it when they're bigger and I guarentee they'll do the same!! Yes, you need to blog the recipe! And your pumpkin is super cute!!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that version of Sleepy Hollow, nor did I know it existed. I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition! LOVE IT! :)
ReplyDeleteI would have definitely been at your dorm for Halloween if I'd known you in college.
ReplyDeleteDisney's Mickey's House of Villains has some of the cartoons from Disney Halloween, but it doesn't have all the scary scenes from Disney movies. However it does have a few new Halloween cartoons too, so it's definitely worth watching.
