My Baby Is 11 Months Old!

Natalie will be ONE in just a month! Craziness! The year has flown by MUCH faster with my second baby than it did with my first. Maybe because it's so much busier taking care of two kids than taking care of one? I don't know, but for whatever reason it's just going incredibly fast!

Here are some random things that I just don't want to forget about my Natalie:

*She doesn't walk yet, but she's very coordinated! She's good at balancing, maneuvering into pretty much into position she wants to, and she's gotten to be a VERY fast crawler so she can chase around her sister and our cats. It's so cute to see her crawl around the house! I'll actually be a little sad when she starts walking, just because crawling is so darn adorable.

*She loves to make messes, and mash or tear up absolutely anything with her hands. The other day we found her tearing up a big piece of styrofoam into tiny little pieces. It looked like she was surrounded by snowflakes! She also goes crazy trying to get all the Play-doh in her mouth, the floor, and her hands at toddler group. Another of her favorite past-times is finding Kirsten's sippy cups and shaking them upside down to see the water drip out of them.

*She LOVES the cats, and I do mean loves! She chases them around, grabs their fur or their face when she ever gets the chance, and squeals with delight when she even sees a picture of a cat in a book. I'm so glad we have another kitty lover in the house! Kirsten just likes to boss them around, and she really isn't nice to them.

*Today she must have been absolutely dead tired, because on the way home from toddler group she fell asleep in her car seat, while Kirsten was screaming and crying for the entire drive home. How on earth did she do that? Plus, she always wakes up when I turn the car off, but she stayed asleep this time. I brought her inside, set the car seat down in the entryway, and she's been sleeping in there for an hour and a half and still snoozing! The last time she did that she was probably about four months old. So I have no idea where this came from today!

*This girl is outgrowing everything! She's already been wearing the 12-18 month clothes for a couple of months now, and some of the pants are already too short. And she'll be saying goodbye to her infant seat soon. She's too heavy to heft around in it anymore!

*She still loves to play with Kirsten, but she's definitely learning how to not let Kirsten mess with her too much. She squeals, squawks, or screams whenever Kirsten takes a toy away from her or does something to her she doesn't like. She's learning fast! But she also loves to watch Kirsten play, chase her around, and take baths with her.

*She loves to eat ALL baby foods, and gets very impatient and upset when she has to wait even a minute for her food. As soon as she gets in that high chair she starts demanding it, and gets really fussy when we're opening up the next jar after she finishes the first one. She's still hesitant about textures of real foods though, but she sure loves her baby food!

*She loves music! One of her favorite toys is her Fisher Price Seahorse that lights up and plays music. She loves to press its tummy to make the music start, and then she'll just sit there and hold it for awhile. She also loves to stand up in her crib and turn her mobile on, and sometimes she'll bob up and down like she's dancing.

*Whenever she's sad or wanting something, she just says, "Mum mum mum" over and over. I guess it should make me feel good that she wants me. :)

*One of my favorite things about her is her great sense of humor that she has already! Sometimes she'll laugh SO hard at the most random stuff. Yesterday she was throwing some toy links up in the air and laughing so hard she almost fell over. She kept doing it over and over, and it was making me laugh really hard too because of her reaction. Thanks for entertaining me, Natalie!

She brightens up my life, and we all love her SO much!!!

February's Over? Where Have I Been?

Okay. . . I blinked and February ended.

I realize we're already in the middle of March. But I still have some February pictures to post, and stuff to talk about! I know it's the shortest month of the year, but it just seemed really short to me. Here are a few leftover Valentine's pictures, that just never made it onto the blog:

Cute little Natalie! Those headbands look adorable on her, but they rarely stay on for more than a few seconds at a time. She pulls them right off!

My best attempt at getting the two of them to sit together and smile for a picture. TOUGH work, let me tell you! Kirsten is the hardest, since she doesn't smile on demand for a camera. Or she will, but she won't stop moving, so the picture is just a blur.

Kirsten had a great time decorating Valentine's Day sugar cookies! Mostly because she wanted to eat them. That girl already has a highly-developed sweet tooth! I have no idea where she gets it from. . .

Then I have some great pictures from my 3-part birthday weekend! Part 1 was a night out with the girls at the brand new Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle. Much fun was had! (Can you believe Seattle didn't have a Hard Rock Cafe before a few weeks ago? I thought every big city had one!)

That virgin lava flow drink I had was delicious! I want to go back again, to get the drink and my grilled chicken nachos. Seriously good!!!

Part 2 on Saturday included an awesome free birthday dinner at Black Angus, followed by friends and ice cream cake! I was amazed that Black Angus gave me a free dessert AND a free meal. Check out that giant cookie topped with ice cream! Kirsten thought she'd gone to heaven!
Part 3 on Sunday was more friends, more cake (well, the same one), games, and more fun! Birthdays are the best!

The beautiful cake! Homemade. . . (if your home is Baskin-Robbins). Their ice cream cakes are the greatest!

I'll post more pictures of this year's birthday weekend, and in between I'll regale you with some tales of birthdays past:

*When I turned 4, my parents threw my first "big" party, and my Aunt Lani dressed up as a clown and made balloon animals for all the kids. It's funny that I enjoyed the clown as a kid, because now clowns absolutely terrify me! Nothing's scarier than a clown!

*When I turned 8, I invited my friends from school and we went to every kid's favorite place. . . of course, Chuckee Cheese! I remember my favorite present from that year: One friend gave me two giant Koosh balls in my favorite colors. (Yes, I was a child of the 80's). Who else loved those??? I got HOURS of fun from those things!

*When I turned 10, I had my party at Family Fun Center. (Have you noticed a theme? Yep, my parents' idea was to have a party every other year, and just something really small on the other years). We did pretty much everything at Family Fun Center: the mini golf, crazy maze, bumper boats. It was the cool place to have your party, that's for sure!

*Every year I looked forward to going shopping with my Grandma for my birthday. She'd take me to the mall and let me choose a really pretty dress or a great outfit, and we would go out to lunch. It really made me feel special!

*I don't remember a whole lot about birthday gifts from my parents. I'm sure I got them, but Christmas gifts stand out as being more memorable to me, as far as individual gifts. I do remember coming home from school on my birthday one year and finding in my room a brand new gumball machine-shaped fish tank with some gorgeous fish in it! Living pets always seem to be the most memorable.

*When I turned 11, I invited just one friend and went ice skating for the very first time ever. It was a girl from my ward who I didn't know very well at the time, but it was the beginning of a long and wonderful friendship!

(Oh, note about this picture. . . my brother sent me flowers for my birthday this year! This marks the single only time my brother has ever sent me flowers before. It was a cool surprise!)

*When I turned 12, I wanted my party at the T-Bird Diner, so we had a whole '50's theme going! I remember a girl from my class bringing me a new parakeet, since my first one had died. It was so sweet!

*I can't remember how old I was, but one year my Aunt Lani took me to Disneyland with her friends for my birthday. It was SO exciting!

*When I turned 16 and 18 I had pretty low-key parties in my parents' basement. I invited a bunch of friends, and just had games and food and we all had such a blast!

*Most of my birthdays I had in college blend together in my mind (usually just classes and tests, nothing too special), except for two that stand out. I turned 20 right in the middle of our week off from school for the Salt Lake City Olympics. One of my good friends took me out for my birthday and we got to walk around Salt Lake City when it was all lit up for the Olympics. It was amazing, and one of my most memorable birthdays for sure!!! During that week we were out of school, I took a road trip back home to San Diego with my friend Carrie and another roommate, and we went to Disneyland for my birthday with a whole group of friends! Loved it! Gosh, that was an exciting year!

*Okay, ready for my most embarrassing birthday story I can remember? When I turned 21, I went out to dinner on my birthday with a few close friends and we had a party scheduled at my apartment for a bunch of people later that night. We were about 20 minutes late to my own party, so everyone was already there waiting for me. I wasn't there for this embarrassing moment, but my roommate filled me in later. . .
Our neighbor across the hall had seen me holding hands with a boy earlier that week, so when she arrived at the party and saw all the guys there she yelled out, "So which one of you is Ashley's boyfriend?" There was absolute silence and all the guys just looked around at each other. I was absolutely mortified when I heard about this later, since I didn't have a boyfriend at the time and there were several guys at my party that I was interested in. Of course I can laugh at it now, but I was not too amused at the time!

Alright, that's the end of my birthday memories for now. Even my husband could learn some new things about me from reading this post! Just one last picture of me and some wonderful friends this year!

I feel like being unorganized is the bane of my life, and I was so tired of leaving things in my purse when I meant to throw them in my diaper bag or vice versa. The Fun and the Fabulous Reviews. . . Kid's Shoes!

If you've spent much time around me and my baby, you might have noticed that I rarely put shoes on her. She always wears socks, but I usually stop there. I have a hard time finding baby shoes that actually seem comfortable for their growing feet, and I just don't see much point to putting shoes on them until they're walking. But I have found two different shoe companies for babies and toddlers that are awesome! Flexible, comfortable, and great-looking too!

You've probably heard of Pediped, as it's a pretty popular infant shoe brand. I received a pair for Natalie, and I was so sad when she outgrew them because they are just too adorable for words! Look at these sweet little things:

Why I love Pediped (and why I think you will too!):
*They are soft-soled shoes, yet they work great for indoor or outdoor use! Unlike Robeez, these can hold up well being worn outside. Plus, they're soooo much cuter than Robeez!
*The soles are made with a double layer of leather plus a foam pad for extra cushioning. This makes them comfortable as well as really strong and durable!

*The Velcro fasteners make them a snap to put on, and babies can't kick them off!

I know winter is coming to an end for most of us, and now is the perfect time to stock up on winter and cold weather gear for this next year at great prices. *The designs are truly spectacular. They make me happy!

Vancouver Before the Olympics!

Isn't it cool that I live only a 2 hour drive from Vancouver?

I think it's pretty awesome! I really wish I could have gone there during the Olympics, but prices for everything were through the roof. Instead, I got to go there towards the end of January with my friend Miranda. Yep, a whole weekend in Canada, just the two of us, no kids. Do we have wonderful husbands or what???

I learned that Vancouver is a HUGE city! Here we are in the Vancouver Harbor. I love how Miranda was 7 months pregnant and still up for this adventure! It's become sort of an annual tradition for us now, since we went to Victoria, BC in March of last year when I was pregnant with Natalie, and now we went to Vancouver this year.

Gorgeous, yes? I had some fun with my new Nikon while we were there. What do you think, should I round the edges of my photos more often? I kind of like the effect.

The whole time we were there I was wondering, "Why haven't I come here before?" I've lived in Seattle for over three years now, and hadn't been to Vancouver yet! It's close, easy, and there is a TON of stuff to do there! We took it easy and kept it simple with lots of shopping, eating, and going to a movie, but I could make a huge list of things I'd want to do there in the summer.

I really liked this bridge! We got lucky with pretty nice weather while we were there, too. It was a little cold, but no rain!

We spent a good part of our Saturday shopping at the Granville Island Market. It was so awesome! SO much delicious food and fresh produce, and tons of really cute boutique shops. I'll bet during the Olympics it just got flooded with people! I loved the vibrant colors in the fruit.

It was sooooo nice to have a girl's weekend away to relax, sleep in, explore the city, and pretty much do whatever we wanted. I had such a great time!

After we left the city on Sunday, I drove us to the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. I was blown away by how beautiful it was there!

This was pretty much the longest and coolest suspension bridge I've ever been on. It was a miracle to get a photo of me on the bridge without other people on it. I don't know how we did it!

I LOVE the Pacific Northwest, including British Columbia. I hope to explore LOTS more of it throughout my life!

This might sound crazy, but one of the highlights of the trip was on our way home, not too far into dear old Washington, I took a random exit looking for some food. It was like I saw the heavens open and heard angels sing when my eyes beheld this sight:

Miranda got a kick out of how excited I got when I saw this place. I gasped and I think I was bouncing in the driver's seat. (Just so I don't sound too crazy. . . I loved Sonic when I lived in Utah, and I thought there weren't any of them in Washington west of Spokane. But I was wrong!!! Next time I'm craving Sonic, I can just drive an hour and a half north and there you go!!! Okay, maybe I won't drive that far just to get Sonic. But it was just SO lucky that I happened to pick that exit, and they didn't even have a sign visible from the freeway! Oh, it was meant to be!!!)

I got my Route 44-sized Dr. Pepper with Cherry and Vanilla flavoring. . . my favorite drink EVER, and just as good as I remembered it. . . and my mozzarella cheese sticks, and I was happy as a clam the rest of the way home!

So I hope this post fully expresses my love for Sonic, girl's weekends with friends, my husband who watched the kids by himself for two days, and Canada!!! Such a great weekend!
