Back To School For Moms and Gals Super-Giveaway!!!

This back to school giveaway isn't for the kids! It's chock-full of stuff that moms and girls everywhere will want to have, and I'm so excited to offer it here on my blog! Get your fingers ready for lots of entries, because you'll definitely want to win one of these prizes. . .

#1- A Vintage-Style Sailor Dress from Get Go Retro! In your size of choice (small, medium, or large!) This dress has a $50 value!
If you're looking for a glamorous Halloween costume or you just love the pin-up, Hollywood style from the 40's and 50's, Get Go Retro is absolutely perfect! This family-owned company offers a huge variety of high-quality apparel, swimwear, and accessories inspired by the gorgeous retro style that everyone seems to love. It's so fun clicking through the pages. . . I see so many costumes and dresses I'd just love to own!
#2- An assorted surprise gift basket of a whole BUNCH of goodies from Mayfair Lane! Worth $75!!! We won't know for sure what goes in the gift basket, but trust me when I say all their stuff is super cute and useful!

Here's what I totally love about their revolutionary Happeez products:
*The material on the back of their products grips onto slick surfaces including stainless steel fridges, and leaves no residue! I have a stainless steel fridge, and it really bugged me that I couldn't put any magnets on it or hang anything on my fridge. I got a trio of clippers (shown in the picture above), and I love them! I can clip any papers onto them and they don't fall off my fridge! They really stay stuck!
*The designs are SO stylish! I love the whiteboards that also stick onto slick surfaces and come with a dry-erase pen and eraser that stick on as well.
*They offer a wide variety of products, all with the same gripping material. . . clippers, whiteboards, planners, notepads, photo frames, and list pads!

These products will be perfect for organizing all the back-to-school chaos, and I'm sure you'll love them as much as I do!

#3- A $10 gift certificate to the Sunny Days Boutique Etsy shop (with free shipping on anything you buy with it!)

These handmade accessories and hair flowers are just beautiful! I love the high quality fabrics she uses (satin and organza, oh my!) to make these unique flowers. At $10 each, I could use one in every color!

I think this Bridal Ivory Rose Fascinator is especially perfect for a special occasion!

#4- A Sampler Pack from Brittanie's Thyme, including these luxurious products:
*Organic Almond Oatmeal Facial Scrub
*French Green Clay with Organic White Tea
*Organic Facial Steam to provide a deep pore cleanse

All of these products make you feel like you're in a high-end spa when you use them! Brittanie's Thyme is devoted to making high-quality, all natural and organic beauty products. Everything is vegan, and they don't use any fillers, artificial preservatives, artificial fragrances, or dyes in their products.

#5- A Raw Chocolate Face Pack from Raw Gaia!
If you're at all like me, anything with the word chocolate in it that you can put on your face or body. . . mmmm, yes! The scent is just so yummy, and makes me want to eat this stuff up!
The Raw Chocolate Face Pack contains only four pure ingredients, carefully chosen for their nourishing qualities for your face. . . raw chocolate powder (which has the highest known source of antioxidants in the world!), red clay, organic turmeric, and organic amla fruit powder.
I tried this face pack out for myself, and it left my skin feeling SO soft and smooth afterward! The only downside? It left me craving some serious chocolate. :)

Raw Gaia has a HUGE variety of products that are all hand-made using only organic, cold-pressed, vegan, all-natural, cruelty-free and chemical-free ingredients. Through a special low-temperature process, these products retain all the life energy, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids in the ingredients. No doubt. . . this is stuff you can feel really good about putting on your skin!

#6- A List Caddy List and Coupon Holder!
This compact little device may not look like much, but it's incredibly useful! You just stick it in your purse, then pull it out at the grocery store where it clips right onto the shopping cart handle for a hands-free place to put your shopping list and coupons! I love having my shopping list right in front of my eyes at the grocery store without having to hold onto it. Genius, huh?
The List Caddy also has a magnet on the back, so you can put it on your fridge and then just toss it in your purse when you're ready to go shopping. It can also stand alone on your counter and hold recipes up while you're cooking or baking! The winner gets one in their color of choice.

#7- A Brugo Mug!
This is not your everyday mug. . . it's uniquely designed to keep every sip of your drink in the perfect temperature zone! I'm not a coffee drinker, but if you are this mug would be the perfect thing for you to take to work every morning or use at home.
The Brugo Mug is insulated and spill-proof. When you tip the mug, your beverage enters the patented Temperature Control Chamber. It's instantly adjusted to the perfect temperature (read: no more burning your tongue!) while the rest of your drink stays hottest and most aromatic. Pretty cool! I've found that it also keeps cold drinks cold for a really long time!

Fun Finds: Toys!

I can't believe it's the start of the holiday season! Can't WAIT, it's my very favorite time of year! And if you're looking ahead for Christmas gifts (aren't we all!), here are a few unique and fun toys to consider:

*Rody! Ever since I saw one of these at a specialty toy store, I was a little bit enamored with it. I just find it super adorable! The Rody horse is made of strong, durable latex-free vinyl and inflates with a hand pump. Then kids get to sit on it and jump and hop around, and it helps them to develop balance and coordination. I chose to review it from CSNstores.com, where it's at the lowest price I've ever seen it. . . $40 with free shipping!

Kirsten already loves the Rody so much she won't let Natalie get near it. That's the only problem with the Rody. . . I'm sure we'll have to get another one someday so that each child can have their own! This would make a perfect Christmas gift.

Remember those paper things you used to make as a kid that you'd open and shut with your hands and they'd tell you your fortune or answer questions? Cahootie toys are created to bring them back into style! I love this idea! Cahooties come in tons of different themes, and each one is made of really durable laminated paper. Each one also comes with 40 removable and interchangeable stickers, with lots of different questions and fortunes.

Kirsten is too young to understand the concept of this game, but she thought it was really fun and got a kick out of putting her hands into it! I love all the different interchangeable stickers, and looking at it really took me back to my elementary school days when I used to play the similar games with my friends at recess. This would be such a fun gift for an older kid or teen!

This other toy I found is just so stinkin' cute. . . Squinkies!
These are TINY (yes, I do mean incredibly tiny! Watch out if you have babies around the house, for sure!) toys that come in little gumballs, and you can buy different playsets for them like a gumball machine and have them come rolling out to reveal the cute surprise inside. You can collect all the different playsets and Squinkies. Gosh, I would have had hours of fun with these as a kid!

We got a package to review like this one, and Kirsten was supposed to be taking a nap when she found it, unwrapped it, and opened up all the little bubbles to find the creatures inside. She was pretty excited about them, even though she's on the young side and doesn't really play with them for long yet.
Now I want to get one of the gumball machines too!

My disclaimer: I received products from these companies in exchange for honest reviews. I was not compensated, and the opinions are all mine!

Fun Finds: Awesome New Infant Carrier!

Infantino has a really fun and awesome-looking new line of baby carriers out, and you can read all about the different ones here.

Here's the one I chose to review. . . the SUPER stylish and cute EcoSash Wrap and Tie Carrier!
I normally test out all products I receive before I write about them, but I'm actually too pregnant right now to test this one out yet. Somehow, I think that getting my 16 month-old into a carrier over my 7-months-pregnant belly would be pretty ridiculous as well as impossible! So I'll have to wait to try this one out after I have my newest sweet little baby. But I'm so excited about it, and I can tell I'll get a ton of use out of it!

Here's why I chose it:
*I love the adorable print! It's also reversible, so you can have it be solid if you want.
*It's buckle-free, and you just wrap and tie it!
*There are three different carrying positions it adjusts to. . . you can have your baby facing in, facing out, or wear it as a back carrier. Pretty awesome!
*It's easily adjustable, so it can fit you perfectly as your child grows.
*It's really soft and comfortable, with a natural bucket seat.
*I love that it has a detachable hood!
*It comes with a mesh bag for machine washing or for storage.

Babies R Us is offering this carrier right now at a really great price of $59.99!
Which is your favorite baby carrier? I'm really excited to try this one out with my new baby this fall!!!

*I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for Infantino and have received various Infantino products as part of my participation.

Isn't It Ironic. . . Don't You Think?

Some days, the irony just goes too far. And you remember that God truly does have a sense of humor, and he's making sure you remember to have one too.

This morning, I was pleasantly surprised when Kirsten slept in until 10:00. This is SO different from her usual 7:30 wake-up time, and I was so pleased about my unexpected sleep-in that I posted a status on Facebook about what a great day it was going to be. In fact, here's my exact status update:

"Ashley Hofer Veater was amazed when both my kids slept in late this morning. Getting to unexpectedly sleep in is a great start to the day!"

(Fast-forward lots of hours later, to the current time of 2:13 am).

Things I have done today:
*Realized Kirsten was actually sick when she laid on the couch for two hours this morning, ate nothing, and then wanted to take a nap at 12:30.
*Cleaned up the couch and Kirsten after she threw up all over both after her nap. Was thankful for the hundredth time that we have a black couch. (How do people have light-colored couches and chairs with small children?)
*Wiped Natalie's nose every time she came near me today. Yep, she's got a bad cold. I can't figure out if they're sick with the same thing, because the symptoms seem completely different.
*Put Kirsten back to bed several times today. Made soup for dinner, which she didn't even touch. Poor little girl!
*Listened to Natalie cry from 7:30 until 11 pm. Despite everything we tried to do for her, she just wouldn't stop crying and fall asleep until then.
*Changed Natalie's crib sheet when she threw up in it tonight.
*Listened to Natalie cry again from 1:30 am when she woke up until. . . well, she's still crying now. And she doesn't seem to want anything. If I go in there and try to do something for her, she just gets more upset.

Ummm. . . so much for my "great start to the day." Remind me to not post something like that on Facebook ever again!

So it's now 2:30 in the morning, I have a headache from hearing Natalie cry so much, I'm seven months pregnant and really tired, and it's been an absolutely terrible day.

Isn't it ironic. . . how being a mom mixes such terrible, awful, completely miserable moments with really wonderful, happy, joyful ones too?

Example: Natalie has been SO cute lately. She is finally walking, at sixteen months (disproving the oft-quoted theory about second children walking earlier than first children because they learn from their older sibling. Kirsten walked at fifteen months, so she beat Natalie by just a little bit. Apparently my kids just love to crawl). It's so fun to watch her toddle around the house and get faster and more confident on her feet. She's also happier now that she can walk and get where she wants to much faster. She's figuring out a lot of her toys, and it's just cool to watch her brain working as she tries to learn new skills. Oh, and she loves to point to pictures in books so I can tell her what they are.
She's also in the midst of learning new words! Her list has expanded from "Mama" and "Dadda" to include the following:
*"Hello!" That one's her favorite. Any time she sees a phone, anything that looks remotely like a phone, people she likes, or sometimes strangers she excitedly squeals "Hello!" Except it sounds like "Ha-wah!" So adorable.
*Kitty. Yep, she's now describing the creatures that she gets infinite joy from torturing. Only one of our cats will even let her pet him, and I can just see him thinking "Oh great. . . her again" every time she squeals and runs over to pet and hug him. At least he tolerates her, for a few minutes.
*Bye-bye!
*Uh-oh!
*Bath
*Mmmm (whenever she sees anyone with ANY kind of food) and Oooooh! (when she sees something she likes or wants)

And then there's Kirsten. . . and I'm truly discovering why people say the 3's are worse than the 2's. Holy cow! I really miss my sweet little 2 year-old Kirsten. 3 year-old Kirsten has such a defiant little attitude!

2 year-old Kirsten would help me clean up her messes and toys.
3 year-old Kirsten thinks up the most ridiculous excuses to simple requests, such as:
"Kirsten, come clean up the toys that you scattered all over the living room."
Her response? "I'm too far away" or "It's too heavy" or her favorite. . . "You do it."

2 year-old Kirsten only colored on paper.
3 year-old Kirsten colors on walls, her own skin, and the other day she opened up some markers and colored ALL over the HD TV screen. I knew she was being too quiet downstairs! I freaked out when I saw the markings on the screen and all over the wood of the entertainment center. Thankfully, they were Crayola Washable markers and came right off. Good thing we caught them while the markings were still wet!

2 year-old Kirsten made me wonder how parents could ever spank their children.
3 year-old Kirsten has gotten me closer to spanking her than I ever thought possible. I still don't believe in spanking children, but boy some days I wish I did!

I know, I know, someday I will miss her crazy 3 year-old antics and how sweet she is and how her whole world revolves around Mommy and Daddy and Natalie.

I'll miss her affinity for hats and how she loves turning kitchen utensils into instruments:

And I know I'll miss moments like this one. . . her first lipstick encounter:

I try really hard to remember that someday I will miss all of these things, and I'll miss them being so little. Remembering that is easier said than done on days like this one. But I got through it. And tomorrow has to be better, right??? I guess if I can write a coherent blog post at 2:30 in the morning while the baby is crying, I can do pretty much anything.

2:55 am- Natalie finally stopped crying. I don't know how long this will last, but I better grab some sleep while I can.

Fun and Frugal Finds!

I just had to share with you all this awesome deal I found today. . . Wallies has extended their Labor Day 50% off sale through the end of today (9/8).

I can't believe this adorable Woodland Growth Chart wall decal was on sale for only $11! I totally jumped on it and bought it for Kirsten's room, and I'm really excited to see how it looks on the wall. It comes with all the animals and everything shown in the picture! It was $5 extra for shipping, but still a screamin' deal!
My disclaimer: I received nothing for posting this one. Just had to share such a great, fun deal with my readers!

Our Camping Trip!!!

One of my favorite things about summer is going camping!!! It's about twenty times more difficult than normal when you camp with young kids, but I'm still determined to camp at least once a year. That's how great memories are made!

For this summer's camping trip, we invited some friends, packed the minivan to the max, and headed out to a place we'd never been before. . . Steamboat Rock State Park, about four hours east. I had read rave reviews about the clean campsites and the gorgeous lake they have there. And it did not disappoint! Check out stunnning Steamboat Rock at sunset!

It actually took us about five hours to drive there, since we stopped for lunch. Thank goodness for comfy car seats and sleeping kids! (Well, one sleeping kid).

Veater family camping tip #1: Make sure you have lots of help setting up the tents when you get there!

Veater family camping tip #2: If you've got young kids with you, bring extras of everything you can possibly think of! It's better to take too much than too little! We even took an extra tent, and Natalie ended up sleeping in it in her Pack 'n Play. Queen Natalie in her very own tent. :) Kirsten slept in the big tent with us, but she had her own air mattress. She was SO excited to sleep in her brand new big-girl sleeping bag. . . but ended up sleeping in the middle of the air mattress both nights, clutching her regular blankie, with the sleeping bag tossed aside. Oh well.

Veater family camping tip #3: We found some cool bug repellant wipes that were a lot easier to use on the kids than bug spray, plus it was less stinky and messy. I guess they worked well. . . none of us got a single bite!

Veater family camping tip #4: When you plan out food and meals, the easier the better. We brought Costco muffins and fruit for breakfast, sandwich fixings and chips for lunches, hot dogs to roast for dinner, and all the stuff for s'mores. It was all yummy and super easy!

The sun was setting after we got the tents set up, so we walked the short distance to the sandy beach at the lake, just to check it out.

Definitely not to go in the water! No way! We were just supposed to look at it!
Yeah. . . both of the kids got wet up to their shoulders. But the lake was so warm, and so beautiful! Hard to resist!

Veater family camping tip #5: If your kids are potty-trained, choose a campsite that has real bathrooms, NOT port-a-potties. I was so thankful for the clean bathrooms they had there every time I took Kirsten to go potty.

Veater family camping tip #6: If you plan on cooking all your food on sticks over the fire (like we planned), make sure you bring a small grill or camping stove as a back-up. Or call the campsite beforehand and make sure there's no fire ban in effect. The most disappointing thing about this camping trip by FAR was the fire ban for the whole area. We couldn't even use the fire pit the campsite provided! It was a total bummer! What's camping without a campfire??? At least it was warm enough that we didn't need to sit around a fire for warmth. We had thankfully brought our tiny camping grill, and it was just the right size for roasting hot dogs. And for s'mores. . . our friend Chance had his little burner with him, and we roasted the marshmallows one at a time over the little burner. Hey, at least we still got s'mores! Not quite as fun, but still yummy!

Veater family camping trip #7: Especially if it's hot (high 90's during the day where we were!), go camping by a lake. It was wonderful! Kirsten was SO thrilled and excited to spend hours swimming and playing in the lake!

Our friends brought the super fun inner tube! If only we'd had a boat to pull each other around in! But Kirsten still had a blast!!!

Growing up, I never swam in a lake until I was about 17 and my youth group went on a trip to the Colorado River. Crazy, huh? Southern California girls just don't swim in lakes, we swam in pools or the ocean. But lake swimming is SO awesome, and really great for little kids! The water is gentle and warm, and they still get sandy beaches to play in. It's Kirsten's favorite thing!

We all built sand castles and played in the sand too, even though it was hard to get Kirsten out of the water, even to play in the sand! Natalie enjoyed the sand a whole bunch.

Isn't that such a gorgeous background? (I was on this camping trip too, believe it or not. Just always behind the camera!)

We spent almost all of our time in the lake, since it was so hot! But we hung out on blankets on the grass in the evenings, and then played card games at night after the kids were asleep. Under the beautiful stars! Camping is so wonderful!

Kirsten had lots of fun playing on the sand dunes right by the campsite with our friends!

Camping at Steamboat Rock State Park turned out to be totally fun and SO worth it! We loved it and I'm sure we'll go back, maybe next year!

Recess Monkey is another Seattle-based kid band, and gosh I'm an adult and even I love this CD! The music is really catchy and infectious without being annoying (and I had my doubts about it because I don't really like outer space-themed stuff). Check out their website, listen to some clips with your kids, and you'll see what I mean! Awesome music!

Prize #5: Tie Buddies!
These cute little devices make it easier for kids to learn how to tie their shoes by themselves! Genius! They've been featured in Parenting Magazine, and act as pull-tabs for little hands to help them gain confidence and get those loops tied. My 3 year-old is too young to learn this skill (we're still working on getting velcro shoes on by herself in our house), but I'm so excited to break these out when she's finally ready. I love how easy they are to use, and as soon as your kid gets the hang of it you can easily remove them from their laces. The winner of this prize will get a set of Tie Buddies in colors for either boys or girls!

Prize #6: (This one has TWO winners!)
Award-winning kid's headphones from Kidz Gear!!! One winner will get a set of Wired Headphones, and one winner will get a set of Wireless Headphones plus the IR Transmitter for home use!

My 3 year-old is completely thrilled to have her own headphones, perfectly designed to fit her head! They are very high quality and provide top-notch sound, and she used them on our recent airplane trip to watch movies on our portable DVD player. These aren't toy headphones, but REAL ones and the cushioning and padding on them is super comfortable. Kids can also use them in the car, connected to mp3 players, or TV's too! The wireless set would be SO perfect to use in the car with a DVD player. Such a great product!
Two winners for this one!!!

This company uses extremely soft, high-quality fabric that won't shrink or fade in the wash, and you can choose the size from 3 months up to 5T! Great style for your back to school (or too young for school) babe!

Fun Finds For Babies!!!

When you have a bottle-feeding baby, keeping a bottle drying rack on your counter is pretty much necessary. I thought all drying racks were ugly. . . until I found this totally mod and cute Grass drying rack from Boon. Don't you love it?
It has such a unique and innovative design! I love how the water drains down into the tray, so the bottles can just sit on top of the "grass" and dry. It's also super easy to clean, since the tray comes apart from the grass section and both can go in the dishwasher!

The price: at $19.99, this is an awesome deal!

Here's a fun find that's really useful when you're traveling with a baby. . . the Baby Travel Kit from ErbaOrganics.

The fun little carrying case comes with four great products in the perfect size for travel. The products are all specially formulated for sensitive baby skin, and the kit includes:
*Organic baby body wash
*Organic baby lotion
*Organic diaper cream
*Organic baby shampoo

It's so great for traveling with your own baby, or would make a cute little gift!
The price: Like most organic products, you'll pay a little more for it. This travel kit is $25. But if you love organic products, you will certainly love this kit! The company donates 15% of their proceeds to the Worldwide Orphans Foundation.
Another awesome organic find is Simple Chickie 100% organic cotton baby clothes!
Fun and unique art is printed on really beautiful organic onesies, tshirts, and hats for babies and toddlers from 3 months to 6T. If you haven't tried organic baby clothes before, they are perfect for babies with sensitive skin and SO soft. Seriously, you can wash them over and over and they hold their softness so well!

This is my fave design from their shop:

I can't believe how small Natalie was when she wore this onesie! She looks SO different now!
The price: $24 for a onesie or Tshirt, and $14 for the cute little hats.

My disclaimer: I received a drying rack, travel kit, and onesie from these companies to provide an honest review. I was not compensated, and all opinions are my own!
