In My World This Week

Biggest news first. . . Kirsten went potty in the potty chair on Sunday, for the first time ever!!! It's still been the only time, but hey, it's something! I didn't even notice she did it, except that she stood up and said, "Mommy, it's all wet in there."

We're not doing full-on potty training yet. Mostly Kirsten doesn't show that she's really ready for it yet, and we're also not home often enough to really go for it. So what I do is whenever we're home and she's watching a movie, I bring out the potty chair and put it in front of the TV. Kirsten gets a sucker (one of those little Dum-Dums) as long as she stays on the potty chair. So she'll sit there, watch her movie, and eat the sucker and if she gets up I take her sucker away. And that's all we've done so far. It's a start! I know lots of kids younger than Kirsten are already fully potty-trained, but Kirsten has never been one to do things faster than other kids. I gotta tell you, though. . . the thought of having only ONE kid in diapers instead of two is unbelievably wonderful. I hope I'll get there someday!

This is Kirsten's potty chair. The Fisher Price Cheer For Me Potty. I think it's pretty cute, and it looks enough like the real thing that she should be able to transition easier, someday.
In other news. . . (yes, I promise this post isn't all about potty!). . .

*I finally ordered Glee Season 1!

I have been wanting it ever since it came out, and I got $45 worth of Amazon credits from filling out online surveys. (OpinionOutpost.com. Really pays off over time! It's totally free, you just fill out surveys they send to your email, and then you can cash in your points for Amazon credits). So I put those credits to great use, and ordered Glee and also pre-ordered. . .

*New Moon on Blu-Ray! March 20'th will be a very exciting day. I'm sure Stephen just can't wait, since he'll actually get to watch it with me this time. :)
*The Olympics are officially over (sad!) but they're not quite over for me. I was behind on watching them, so I still have two days to watch on my DVR. I have to say though, it's a little different watching them now that it's over. I guess I loved the feeling of "watching with the world" or something like that, and now that the world has watched it all I feel much more un-cool. Like, "where have you been? You need to get caught up already!" I love the Olympics, and the winter Olympics especially! Another thing I'm getting caught up on is Stephen Colbert's Olympic coverage. Hilarious! Anybody else watch that?

*I am SO wanting to go buy this for Kirsten's room! They have it at the Land of Nod, and you just stick it all to the wall so it's reusable and everything. Totally adorable! Her walls need this in a bad way.

*Another thing I really want to get for Kirsten is one of these dollhouse bookcases. Isn't that just too cute for words??? I love that it could be used to store books and toys or to play with.

*I had a really nice birthday! Thank you so much to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday on here or on Facebook. Isn't that a nice feature about Facebook? All these people who would never normally remember to email or call me on my birthday can just take two seconds out of their day and write Happy Birthday on my Wall. It's pretty awesome! I will post birthday pictures in another post.

*Speaking of birthdays, I have been loving my delicious birthday freebies in these past two weeks. If you haven't done it yet, you HAVE to sign up for the birthday or email club or whatever they have for the following places:
-Black Angus. . . my very favorite, I look forward to this one every year! A free entree of your choice up to $20! We get that feast for 2 thing and they just take $20 off that. Then they even bring you a free dessert in addition to your free meal! Seriously! Best birthday deal in town! Their garlic cheese bread appetizer is the most delicious thing ever created.
-Claim Jumper. . . I think this one is new, because I've never gotten one before. They sent me a coupon for a free entree valued up to $18!
-Cold Stone. . . You get a free ice cream with one mix-in for your birthday! This is the only one I've been to that actually checks I.D. every time, even though most places say they will.
-Macaroni Grill. . . Free dessert. Not as great as some of the other deals for sure, but they do have yummy desserts there.
-(If you live in Utah) Tucanos. . . Free Brazilian meal, the whole shebang, for your birthday. I'm salivating just thinking about it. It's one of the things I miss most about Utah.
-Red Robin. . . Free birthday burger, or anything else from their menu! I discovered their BLTA this time, and it's super good! Bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado on a croissant! (Those of you who know me well know that I ordered it without lettuce or tomato, so mine was just a BA).

Tons of free birthday yummyness! SO good!!!

*Even though American Idol has been underwhelming me so far this season (total bummer! I hope it gets better!), I do think Ellen is doing a pretty good job as judge so far. Do you agree? Sometimes she just says something dumb like, "I liked the song!" but she seems to have a lot of constructive comments about their performances too. The girls did a much better job this week than last week, and there were some good performances! And I do like Casey and Andrew. I just wish there was anyone on the show that I can love as much as I loved the two Davids in Season 7 or anyone as exciting as Adam from last year.
But how about Kris Allen's performance of "Let It Be" on the results show last week? I thought he sounded amazing and I loved his arrangement!

*March is my second-least favorite month of the year, second only to January. It's just so boring! Nothing very exciting happens in March. (Stephen hates it when I say that. . . his birthday is in March).

*There really aren't enough hours in a day to get everything done that I want to do. I wish I was a vampire and didn't need any sleep at all! Think of all you could accomplish!

*Does anybody even read this stuff? My comments (other than for giveaways) have been really low lately, so I just wonder if people don't have time to read blogs lately or I've just become less interesting. I hope you all still love me! Leave me comments, even if I don't know you, because they really do make my day!

  1. I read it! I'm just not a very good commenter...

I'm glad you mentioned opinionoutpost though. I've done a couple different survey companies (mypoints, erewards) but haven't been thrilled with their outputs. I love the idea of amazon credits. Add that to my swagbucks...sweet! Thanks -

  3. Loved your post! I DREAD the potty stage. Good luck!

I haven't seen New Moon, OR been watching Idol - so I rely on YOU to give me the scoop! Keep it coming!

Thanks for sharing the info about that OpinionOutpost place. What a fabulous way to be rewarded for taking surveys. I've always wondered if they were some legit companies out there!

    Love Ya!

  4. YEA!!!!!!!! That is so awesome Kirsten has been using the potty! It's such a relief to have them potty trained--especially for you, changing TWO kids! Eek! Ooo, I love Glee and that bookshelf thing *IS* too cute for words! I hope you get it!

  5. Potty training is tough for most kids but can be horrendous if you push it. We pushed things with Brent and it just. did. not. work. Then when he turned 3 *he* decided it was time. With Adam (#2) we took things his pace and it has been much happier. I still help him after going poop and he'll be 4 next month, but I figure that can't last forever either so I'm trying not to make a big deal of it. I'm realllllly hoping with #3 things will go well since I'm doing cloth diapers this time around.

  6. They wouldn't let us use the Black Angus coupon on the dinner for 2. But it didn't matter in the end. I like their bread so much that I don't need another appetizer, and they gave me a free dessert. Plus, their dinner for 2 is $50 now, and honestly, 2 entrees plus a $5 dessert and a $5 appetizer is going to be around $50 anyway. It's not much of a deal anymore now that they've raised the price.

  7. I totally read this stuff!! I love your posts like that. I had NO idea that you could sign up for birthday stuff like that. Do you actually have to go ON your birthday? Mine and Nathan's birthdays are just a week apart, maybe we could get some great free food during the month of May!! Thanks for the tip!

  8. You know I read your blog! That dollhouse bookcase is a dream I so want it. I don't watch much current TV, but I've heard so many people raving about Glee it has peaked my interest. I'll have to check out that survey gig.

  9. I really like Ellen on AI. She cracks me up. Jeremy and I kept laughing and laughing when she talked about how pianos look like guitars when you squint your eyes. She adds a lot of levity and fun to the show, and for the most part I like her comments/criticisms.

Good luck with the potty training! :)

  11. That dollhouse is adorable. I never would've thought to use it for toys and storage. Makes me want to take up woodworking.

I signed Superman up for Tucanos club in January -- his birthdya was last week. We never got our free card! We went there with some friends, hoping that they'd be able to look it up, but they can't. Apparently they've outsourced the cards to another company and can no longer do it themselves. Anyway.....major bummer.

Totally missed the Olympics. Between getting ready for baby and starting to watch Lost, I only saw a few hours at the beginning. And we missed Colbert's coverage, too. (I love that man.) But his show comes on at 8 instead of 9 now, and we ALWAYS miss it!

Glad you had a good birthday!

  13. Hey- thanks a lot- my birthday is in march, too! I LOVE March! We get to use my bday coupon at Tucano's this year because there is one in Albuquerque and we will be there in another week house/apartment hunting.

  15. Just received my cheque for $500.

Sometimes people don't believe me when I tell them about how much you can earn taking paid surveys at home...

So I show them a video of myself getting paid over $500 for participating in paid surveys.
